From a culinary demonstration at a 17th-century Italian villa overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, to a hands-on lesson in the art of preparing paella in Valencia, to a French cooking class at a Michelin two-star restaurant, Silversea is rolling out a tantalizing new selection of optional shore excursions designed to showcase the culture and culinary traditions of select destinations in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe this summer.

"Our newest culinary excursions are a great way for guests to interact with local residents and learn what is truly special and unique about a destination," said David Morris, Silversea's senior vice president of sales for North America.  "These exclusive tours are designed for savvy and sophisticated travelers looking for an in-depth cultural experience that will take them into the heart and soul of a region."

The Following New Optional Culinary Tours Range In Price From $105 to $425

Sorrento Cooking School

** From Sorrento, learn how to cook the Italian way at the Sorrento Cooking School within the Giardino delle Esperidi resort in the picturesque town of Sant' Angelo.  Located a short distance from the sea and surrounded by a field of lemon and orange trees, it offers the perfect venue for a hands-on lesson in traditional southern-style Italian cooking.  Highlighting the experience is a delicious lunch featuring your own culinary creations.

La Posta Vecchia,

** From Rome, drive through beautiful landscapes to La Posta Vecchia, a 17th-century villa overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.  This elegant retreat, once the Italian home of oil magnate J. Paul Getty, is now a Relais & Châteaux boutique hotel and restaurant.  In this idyllic setting, you'll enjoy a cooking demonstration with a chef who reveals the intricacies of preparing classic Italian cuisine. The experience is topped off with a three-course lunch perfectly paired with wine from the villa's cellars.

Valencia Cooking School

** From Valencia, you can immerse yourself in the local culture with an exclusive excursion to the former 17th-century royal palace, now the home of the Valencia Cooking School.  Learn about the importance of rice as a staple of the local diet as your culinary instructor reveals the secrets of preparing traditional Valencian paella. You'll get hands-on experience in helping to prepare this delicious meal.

Michelin two-star Château Cordeillan-Bages

** From Bordeaux, set off on a culinary journey through the most prestigious wine-producing region in the world to discover the fine art of French cuisine at the Michelin two-star Château Cordeillan-Bages, a former 17th-century monastery in Pauillac that is now a Relais and Châteaux lodging and restaurant.  In the harvest kitchen of nearby winery Château Lynch-Bages, the sous chef of Cordeillan-Bages will reveal the simplicity and secrets of award-winning French cuisine, followed by a luncheon in the restaurant's private dining room.

Tervasaari Restaurant

** From Helsinki, this vibrant harbor city and its picturesque islands are revealed as you travel along the coastal road to explore the historic heart of this fascinating land where East meets West.  Your exploration culminates with a cooking demonstration hosted by the chef of the Tervasaari Restaurant, where you'll have a chance to savor local delicacies and desserts after you learn some of the intricacies of preparing Finnish cuisine.

Cornelius Restaurant

** From Bergen, enjoy a scenic cruise through the Bergen archipelago and the surrounding Norwegian fjords until you reach the tiny island of Bjorøy.  Here you'll discover the Cornelius Restaurant, a unique dining establishment that can only be reached by boat and only opens its doors for exclusive arrangements.  Indulge in an aperitif while learning about the preparation of local seafood delicacies, which you'll have a chance to sample during a delicious three-course lunch.
