Entertainment Technology Pavilion
To showcase Cutting-Edge Lighting & Sound
For Second Year At Seatrade Convention
The very latest in entertainment
technology -- including some never seen before -- will be on display at the 2006
Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention in Miami Beach March 14-16. For the second
consecutive year, convention organizers CMP Princeton Inc. have collaborated
with PLASA, the Professional Lighting and Sound Association, on an Entertainment
Technology Pavilion to showcase cruise ship show systems.
Cruise ship entertainment venues have grown increasingly elaborate and
sophisticated in recent years, requiring custom-tailored lighting and sound
systems designed specifically to meet the rigorous requirements of the shipboard
environment. All facets of this growing segment will be represented at the
pavilion: lighting equipment, sound systems, communications equipment, special
effects like lasers and pyrotechnics, presentation systems, scenic supplies and
stage equipment.
"Whether it's a full-scale Las Vegas-style revue or an intimate jazz combo, both
the quality of the entertainment and the quality of the technology on cruise
ships rivals any landside venue," said Michael Kazakoff, vice president of CMP
Princeton. "Delegates to the 2006 Cruise Shipping Convention will find all of
the elements brought together in real stage acts every two hours during the
exhibition."
Harbour Marine Systems, one the oldest companies in the business of creating
shipboard entertainment systems, has assembled an array of the industry's
leading suppliers to generate buzz around the ET Pavilion. HMS is creating the
stage and Sixth Star Entertainment is supplying the talent for a series of
15-minute shows designed to demonstrate the full range of audio, lighting and
technical capabilities of a shipboard entertainment venue. The shows will
feature vocalists, magicians and multi-instrumentalists performing during
exhibition hours.
"This year we decided to push it farther with a booth that's set up like a
theater," said Fabien Bareille, vice president of technical sales for HMS. "I
think people will be drawn to the pavilion by the sheer size of it and the great
variety of partners exhibiting."
In addition to Sixth Star, HMS partners participating in the ET Pavilion include
AKG, AMX, Autopatch, BOSCH, Christie, Clair Brothers, CROWN, dbx, ETC, GALA,
High End Systems, JBL, Medialon, Pink Ink, Soundcraft, Thomas and Sharp.
"I can't think of a better way to showcase our entertainers while at the same
time demonstrating the variety of technical offerings from Harbour Marine
Systems," said Doug Jones, president of Sixth Star Entertainment.
HMS's Bareille noted that among the trends in entertainment technology this year
is light emitting diode, or LED, technology: "Everyone in the shipping industry
is looking for ways to save on fuel, and LED is a solution -- they require
one-third of the energy of regular lights. They are not used for theatrical
lighting yet, but that's coming."
He also said that a new generation of digital lighting is to be on display in
the pavilion.
Bareille also is debuting a top-secret product for a select few convention
delegates. He said the revolutionary new piece of equipment from Soundcraft has
never been installed on a ship, and will be shown by appointment only in a
separate conference room.
"For the first time in many years the specifications for ships are changing as a
new series of ships are being designed," said Bareille. "This is the perfect
time to display this system for ships that won't come on-line for another two to
three years."
Besides the cruise industry, HMS also serves the mega-yacht business, and
Bareille said a new entertainment solution for mega-yachts also would be shown
privately to Super Yacht Symposium participants.
"It's a system that allows you to control practically everything on your yacht
by using a wireless mouse and a TV screen/control panel," said Bareille. "You
can control the blinds, lights, camera, satellite TV, audio and video on
demand."
The Seatrade Cruise Shipping Exhibition features nearly 1,000 exhibiting
companies in a 150,000-net-square-foot trade show that encompasses three halls
of the Miami Beach Convention Center. The three-day exhibition features national
pavilions as well as special sections for destinations, ship equipment, ship
services and hotel operations, food and beverage, design and technology.
The Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention is the world's largest annual
cruise-related event and in 2005 drew more than 9,000 visitors from 116
countries and regions. The three-day trade show and four-day conference attract
more than a thousand cruise line executives from around the world.
