Queen Mary 2 departed Hamburg on November 17, 2006, following a scheduled dry dock at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg, Germany and returns to service tomorrow from Southampton. The primary purpose of the work was to reinstall one of the four engine pods, the so-called Mermaid Pod weighing approx. 270 tons, which had been damaged when leaving Port Everglades in January 2006 and was subsequently removed in May 2006 and repaired by Blohm + Voss Repair.

As with any dry dock, Cunard took advantage of the opportunity to complete a variety of hotel, technical and marine projects that include the installation of sprinklers to all the balconies to conform with the new regulations following the Star Princess fire. The Bridge wings will also be extended by two metres on either side.

Cunard is adding a Britannia Club dining venue, which will go into operation at the conclusion of Queen Mary 2’s world cruise in April 2007. The new club style restaurant will be located in the aft section of the Britannia Restaurant and feature single seating dining exclusively for those Britannia Club guests staying in new Category AA Deluxe Balcony staterooms.

The new single-seating dining room will encompass the atmosphere of an intimate private salon. Within Britannia Club, guests will enjoy Cunard’s impeccable White Star ServiceSM from the same servers throughout the voyage, as well as the personal attention of a dedicated Maitre D’. Table-side flambé service and the recommendations of a sommelier add to the luxurious atmosphere and gourmet dining experience.

On Saturday November 18, Queen Mary 2 will sail on her last Transatlantic Crossing of the 2006 season, on a seven-day voyage departing Southampton and will arrive in Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale on November 25. Subsequently she will commences a series of Caribbean cruises, prior to beginning her world cruise on January 10, 2007.
