P&O Cruises Is The
First To Offer Weddings at Sea

Arcadia Arrival In Southampton
P&O Cruises has become
the first cruise line exclusively serving British holidaymakers to offer
weddings at sea. Some cruise lines offer weddings in a cruise port, such as
Miami or St Thomas, but from April 2006 happy couples will be able to say, "I
do" actually at sea on board liners Arcadia, Oceana and Artemis.
Weddings at Sea will be offered as a bespoke service, with couples having a
choice of venue – either out on deck or within a stylish, especially prepared,
interior room. To personalise the big day, there are choices of music, champagne
and wines, wedding cakes and flowers, together with a photography service to
capture the magic moments (video service also available on Arcadia only). Both
bride and groom can also be pampered in the ship’s Oasis Spa with treatments
such as Indian massage, hot stone therapy, Oxyjet facial and use of the
hydrotherapy pool and heated loungers. The bride can also visit the beauty
salon, with services ranging from hair and nails to a full make-up.
After the ceremony, the couple will be able to choose how they would like to
celebrate – from an intimate candlelit dinner in venues such as Arcadian Rhodes,
inspired and created by celebrity chef Gary Rhodes - to a full reception for
family and friends.
Philip Price, head of brand marketing, P&O Cruises, said, "We are delighted to
be able to offer a full wedding service at sea – the romantic notion of being
married by the captain whilst on the perfect holiday can now be a reality.
"Cruise passengers are getting younger and our Weddings at Sea service has
really struck a chord with young couples – to date we have received more than
600 enquiries from people as young as 23. It’s not only the romance that
appeals, it is also that we make weddings an effortless experience and of course
the honeymoon begins as soon as the ceremony is over.
"There is a growing trend for people to get married away from the everyday
stresses and strains of life. Between 1998 and 2004 there was a 55% increase in
the number of UK couples getting married abroad and nearly 70% of all UK couples
now get married in civil ceremonies*. The service we offer on Arcadia, Oceana
and Artemis is the perfect, stress-free solution and we have been overwhelmed
but delighted with the interest shown in this so far. "
The P&O Cruises Weddings at Sea package starts from £599, with £199 for licence
fees, and includes the venue, ceremony conducted by the ship’s captain, VIP
treatment including priority boarding (excluding Caribbean itineraries), floral
arrangements for the ceremony, wedding music, wedding certificate, champagne,
the services of a professional photographer and on-board wedding coordinator,
invitations and thank-you notes. Optional extras include flowers, cake,
photographs/albums, champagne breakfast in bed, reception parties/dinners and
spa treatments.
To allow for weddings to be
conducted at sea, Arcadia, Artemis and Oceana have been registered in Bermuda.
Arcadia and Artemis are child-free ships.
