Medication
It is important that you review your medication and other medical supplies to ensure you will have enough medication and medical supplies throughout your cruise vacation and for the first four or five days after you get home. If you run out during your cruise vacation it may be very difficult to obtain certain medications and some may not be available in certain countries or could be sold under a different name. If you are taking a long cruise ask your personal physician to provide you with a list of alternatives, just in case you run out of your medication that you are taking and it is not available. It is always good to take along a doctor’s prescription for any medication that you are taking, just in case. A prescription could also assist you in clearing customs in foreign country with certain medications that the customs agents are not familiar with. The ship’s Doctor will have available certain medications and standard remedies onboard, but do not expect to find the more unusual and the more obscure medications. If you do run out your medication during a cruise, the ship’s doctor will be more than willing to assist you and supply you with the appropriate medication, but there will be an additional charge for each visit and for the medication. Good advice is to split your medication up and let your spouse of travelling partner carry some of it in their carry on luggage. Important: Do not pack any medication in luggage that is going to be checked with the airlines. Always take your medication in your carry on luggage.
