Insurance

Don't risk travelling without insurance - it could cost you a great deal more in the long run. Arrange travel insurance as soon as you book your Cruise Holiday, this will ensure that you are covered for cancellation and curtailment. Always shop around, while many cruise lines will offer optional travel insurance, it is recommended that you check directly with a travel insurance specialist before purchasing travel insurance. A travel insurance specialist will be able to tailor the policy to your individual requirements and will usually provide better value, than you would receive from a cruise line, travel agent or bank etc.

Please ensure that the insurance company have a Claims Charter.

Check the levels of excess on the policy. It is important to be covered for medical expenses, personal accident, personal liability, cancellation and curtailment of the trip, money/documents and baggage. Other areas of cover usually include delay, missed departure, loss of passport, legal expenses and assistance services.

Check the levels of cover and make sure they suit your particular circumstances. Be wary of paying excessive premiums for unnecessary cover. Always declare pre-existing medical conditions and any hazardous activities/sports you may be undertaking. Failure to do so could mean that you are not covered if something goes wrong. This is important for any holiday you may be going on, that includes activities like scuba diving or sailing. Make sure your policy covers the full length of your trip. Is cancellation cover, enough to cover the cost of your trip? Check that any expensive items you are taking away (e.g. video camera, jewellery) are covered either by your travel insurance or some other form of policy e.g. home contents. Ensure that you can telephone back to your insurance to extend your cover if you decide

      • to stay away in a country longer than anticipated
      • to take part in a hazardous activity while away
      • are you covered if you cross into a country considered to be high risk

Cancellation Insurance

It is important that you take out full cancellation insurance and or cancellation protection at time of deposit to cover your full cruise fare. If you do not take out cancellation insurance and or cancellation protection out at the time of deposit insurers will not cover you for any cancellation that may take place. Without cancellation insurance or cancellation protection, should you have to cancel your cruise for what ever reason prior to the sailing date you will forfeit any amount paid to the cruise line and you could lose the whole fare that you have paid for the cruise.

If you are planning to take an expensive or extended cruise holiday ensure that the cancellation insurance and or cancellation protection will cover your full fare paid, as insurers have upper limits on their policies. In these types of cruises many normal travel insurance policies will not cover your cruise fare in case of cancellation. Be absolutely certain with your insurer that you are fully covered for any cancellation. If you can not find the appropriate cancellation policy, consult with you cruise line as they may most likely will have a specialist that they can recommend you to.

Medical Insurance

Don't risk travelling without Medical insurance - it could cost you a great deal more in the long run. Regardless of your travel plans it is important that you review your medical insurance to ensure that you are fully covered for any type of medical emergency that may happen while you are away on a cruise. You should ensure that your medical insurance policy covers

  • Medical expenses
  • Personal accident
  • Evacuation from the ship via air ambulance
  • Repatriation

Your Duty of Disclosure
It is your responsibility to provide complete and accurate information to the insurers when you take out your travel insurance policy, throughout the life of your policy, and when you renew your insurance. It is important that you ensure that all statements you make on proposal forms, claim forms and other documents are full and accurate. Please be aware that if you fail to disclose any material information to an insurer, it could invalidate your insurance cover.

Please note that supplying false information to obtain travel insurance will invalidate your policy.
