Electrical Appliances

The standard electrical voltage is either 220v a/c, which is used in European countries or 110v a/c, which is used in the Americas and other part of the world. On some cruise ships they will provide you with both 220v and 110v in your cabin. During recent years when the cruise lines have built a new ship they only install either 220v or 110v in cabins but not both. The rule of thumb is that if you are sailing on ship that has its homeport in North America it will be 110v, but if you are sailing on a ship in that has a homeport in Europe it will be 220v. Check with the cruise line prior to your departure as to what voltage is supplied in your cabin. A number of cruise lines will be happy to provide you with electrical plug adapters if your plugs will not work in the electrical outlets provided. Ask your steward or stewardess for assistance. Remember, do not plug a 110v appliance into a 220v outlet or vice versa as it will not work and you could cause serious injury to yourself and/or damage your appliance.
