Death at Sea

People do pass away during cruises. Typically this will happen more on longer voyages, where passengers are generally older. The body will be place in a special refrigeration unit, until arrangements are made. In most case the body will remain aboard until the port of disembarkation. The body maybe flown home from a port of call, but this is a more complicated process because of the formalities and paper work that is involved. To have a body flown home could be very costly. Some cruise lines will permit a burial at sea, upon completion of all the necessary formalities.
