Many cruise ships have casinos onboard offering a variety of gaming tables, which typically include, blackjack (21), baccarat, craps, stud poker and roulette. In addition, one will find the ever-ubiquitous "one-armed-bandits" other wise known as slot machines. Bets are generally either in denominations of 25 cents or One Dollar USD. The slot machines will usually accept 1, 5, 10, 20 and 100 US Dollar bills and will return the unused credits in the form of 1 dollar or 25 cent tokens. These can be taken to the cashier’s window in the casino and redeemed for USD Currency. Some casinos are rather large while others are more intimate, it all depends on the cruise line. It should be noted that cruise ships of German and Japanese registry are not permitted to operate casinos that offer cash prizes. Most games are played by casino chips, which can be purchased from a cashier or a bank note change machine. Some cruise lines do impose a daily limit on the amount of casino chips that you can charge to your shipboard account. Children under the age of 18 years old are not permitted in the casino at any time. In most casinos aboard ships you are forbidden to take photographs.

The casino will be closed while in a port or cruises sailing within national territorial waters, due to International Customs Regulations.

Most cruise lines will provide you with information or show a video on how to play the various games that they offer and also will provide you with free lessons outside of peak times in the casino. Check your Daily Cruise Program for details or ask a supervisor of the casino for assistance on when and where the lesson maybe held. Some cruise lines have been known to leave a few casino chips in your cabin to entice you in to the casino.

Just remember that the cruise lines have casinos to provide entertainment rather then hard-core gambling.
